Wardha : Wardha Police arrested Hindu religious leader Kalicharan Maharaj On Wednesday in connection with a case registered against him here Maharashtra for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Mahatma Gandhi,
The seer was brought here from around 5 am Raipur Sub-divisional police officer Piyush Jagtap said that in Chhattisgarh, where he was lodged in a jail in connection with a similar case registered against him.
He was produced in the local magistrate’s court, from where he was sent to judicial custody.
A case was registered against the religious leader at Wardha city police station on 29 December 2021.
Earlier, Raipur Police had arrested Kalicharan Maharaj on December 26 last year for making derogatory remarks about Mahatma Gandhi at an event in the capital city of Chhattisgarh.
A similar case was registered against him by the Akola Police in Maharashtra.
Last week, the Pune Police arrested him for allegedly making provocative speeches during the ‘Shiv Pratap Din’ event organized to celebrate the killing of Adilshahi commander Afzal Khan on December 19, 2021. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1659.
He was sent to Raipur jail in connection with his remarks against Mahatma Gandhi after a Pune court had granted him bail in the case last Friday.
Wardha police arrested him from there on Wednesday after submitting the production warrant, an official said.
