Maharashtra: Unaccounted cash spent on work at minister’s resort, says Income Tax Department. Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: The Income Tax Department has said that it has found evidence during a recent search that Rs 6 crore was spent on the construction of a prominent politician’s resort at Dapoli in Ratnagiri district. Maharashtra which was not accounted for in the books of account.
The department has also said that the family of a state government official along with close relatives acquired 100 acres of land in the last seven years and are the owners of several commercial establishments. These establishments are being investigated for income tax evasion.
The department released a press note on Thursday in which it did not name the politician and government official.
However, IT sources said the prominent politician who was mentioned in the press note was sent to the state transport minister Anil Parabi And the state government official was for Deputy Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Bajrang Kharmate.
Recently, the department had searched the premises of cable operator Sadanand Kadam and CA Kharmate of Parab. During searches of 26 premises in Mumbai, Pune, Sangli, Ratnagiri, IT seized Rs 66 lakh in cash, digital data and documentary evidence for investigation.
Parab had struck a land deal with cable operator Sadanand Kadam, brother of former Shiv Sena minister Ramdas Kadam, in Ratnagiri for the construction of the resort. The department is probing its details.
The department’s press note said: “Evidence found during the search revealed that the construction of the resort started in 2017 and over Rs 6 crore was spent on it. The cost of its construction has neither been accounted for by the person discovered or by the politician in his books.
The note further states that the prominent politician had bought a parcel of land in Dapoli in 2017 for Rs 1 crore, but it was registered in 2019. Later the land was sold to a person involved in the search operation (cable operator Sada Kadam). In 2020 Rs. 1.1 crores. In between this period, he had built the resort on the land.
“It turns out that the relevant facts regarding the construction of the resort were not communicated to the registering authorities and accordingly, stamp duty was paid only for the registration of the land on both the occasions in 2019 and 2020,” the press note Reading.
During searches at the premises of Deputy RTO Bajrang Kharmate, the department found that his family members as well as close relatives acquired huge assets in the form of properties in key localities in Pune, Sangli and Baramati districts during the last 10 years Is.
The Kharmatte family with close relatives has a bungalow and a farmhouse in Pune, a lavish farmhouse in Tasgaon, two bungalows in Sangli, two commercial complexes with showrooms at Tanishq and Carat Lane, five flats in different locations of Pune, one in Navi Mumbai is flat. Vacant plots at Sangli, Baramati, Pune and acquisition of more than 100 acres of agricultural land during the last seven years. The family owns several businesses including civil construction, real estate and pipe manufacturing.
The department is probing the source of money spent on lavish interiors of shops and bungalows.
The department found that a relative of Kharmate runs a construction business which has got several contracts from the state government. The department also found evidence showing inflation of contract expenditure through fraudulent purchases and sub-contracting to the tune of Rs 27 crore.
The IT also found evidence relating to unaccounted cash receipts of Rs 2 crore in the sale of land in Baramati.
Kharmate is reportedly not directly associated with Parab but is working under the state transport ministry under his leadership.
Earlier, the ED had questioned Kharmate on charges of exchanging money between him and Parab for posting in the police force.
The allegation was leveled by sacked police officer Sachin Vaze, but the ED could not find anything to substantiate Vaze’s claim till the last chargesheet was filed in the money laundering case involving former state home minister Anil Deshmukh.
