As per the National Initiative for Reading Proficiency with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN) India Mission 2021, the Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has launched a subject-by-subject study survey for students of classes 2 to 5. Did. Each student will be examined separately during the test on the basis of pre-determined FLN (Foundational Literacy and Numeracy) skill parameters.

Educators and experts have stressed the need for an integrated approach because individual scales have been ineffective due to a lack of accuracy and uniformity, as well as leaving teachers with too little time to conduct lessons for the intended results. This principle is considered an extension of a long list of FLN assessment and remediation principles proposed by various authorities in school education following the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the last six to nine months, several projects have been set up at the SCERT in Maharashtra and at the local level. At the national level, it started with the National Achievement Survey (NAS). NAS 2021 aims to assess the growth and learning abilities of children as a measure of the effectiveness of the educational system to implement appropriate corrective measures at various levels.

Shortly after the start of the academic year in June this year, the Office of the Commissioner education Maharashtra launched a similar project named Setu Abhyakram (Bridge Course) in an attempt to close the learning gap caused by the closure of schools due to the COVID-19 lockdown. For teachers, let alone students or parents, each of these initiatives with new guidelines was making matters more complicated.

According to The Indian Express, a teacher remarked that “almost every Zilla Parishad (ZP) at the village level or civic body in urban areas came up with projects with different names but with the same objective. While SCERT’s project which started last week, soon, another set of tests are expected to start under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.” The Nipun-Bharat initiative was set up with the goal of ensuring that all students of class 3 are literate and numerate by 2026-2027.
