Maharashtra reports 238 new omicron cases, 43,211 new Covid-19 infections

Maharashtra reported 43,211 new Covid-19 cases and 19 deaths on Friday, according to data released by the state health department.

A health department official said the state also recorded 238 new cases of the omicron type of coronavirus, taking its total tally to 1,605.

With these additions, the number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra rose to 71,24,278, while the death toll rose to 1,41,756, he said. The state had recorded 46,406 COVID-19 cases and 36 deaths on Thursday.

Thus, there was a reduction in cases by 3,195 and deaths by 17 within 24 hours. The official said that Maharashtra’s positivity rate is 21.13 per cent. The rate indicates the percentage of people who test positive for the virus out of those tested overall.

Out of 238 new cases of highly contagious type Omicron, 197 were reported from Pune city, 32 from Pimpri-Chinchwad Industrial Township, three each from Navi Mumbai and Pune Rural, two from Mumbai and one from Akola, the official said.

Mumbai city alone accounted for 11,317 infections and nine deaths out of 43,211 new cases and 19 deaths in the state. He said the number of cured cases increased to 67,17,125 after 33,356 patients were discharged during the day.

According to the official, the recovery rate of corona virus in Maharashtra is 94.28 percent, while the death rate is 1.98 percent. Due to the widening gap between new and cured infections, the number of active cases in Maharashtra has increased to 2,61,658. He said that at present 19,10,361 people are in home quarantine and another 9,286 are in institutional quarantine.

In the last 24 hours, 2,04,478 coronavirus tests were conducted, taking their cumulative count to 7,15,64,070. Mumbai region, which includes the metropolis and its satellite cities, reported 22,037 new cases, followed by Pune region (11,421), Nashik (3,182), Nagpur (2,552), Kolhapur (1,264), Latur (1,227), Aurangabad ( 913) are. ), and Akola region (615), said the bulletin of the health department.

Of the total 19 deaths, 15 were reported in Mumbai region, followed by three in Aurangabad region and one in Kolhapur region.
