Mumbai: In the last 48 hours, Maharashtra witnessed heavy downpour, leading to flood-like situation and landslides at many places. A senior official of the State Disaster Management Department said on Friday evening that 129 people have died in rain-related incidents.
This includes the death of 38 people in a landslide on Thursday in a village in Mahad tehsil of coastal Raigad district, he said.
The death toll in Maharashtra has reached 129 in the last 48 hours, the official said. Most of the deaths have occurred in Raigad and Satara districts.
Apart from landslides, many people have been washed away in the flood waters.
The official put the death toll in various incidents in western Maharashtra’s Satara district at 27.
Other fatalities involved people from eastern districts like Gondia and Chandrapur, he said.
