Thane: A senior health official said on Sunday that the man from Maharashtra’s Thane district, who had tested positive for the omicron variant of Covid-19, is in “stable” condition and is responding “well” to treatment.

Dr Gauri Rathod, Deputy Director, Mumbai Circle Health Services, said, “His condition is stable and is responding well to treatment.”

Dr Rathod said that the man will undergo the prescribed treatment protocol for the Kovid Omicron variant for 14 days.

The 33-year-old marine engineer is currently undergoing treatment at a Kovid care center in Kalyan city, about 50 km from Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra.

Dr Rathod said the patient’s treatment would continue at the Kovid-19 care center in Kalyan and would not be shifted elsewhere.

The man had reached Delhi via Cape Town on November 24 and had given his samples for COVID-19 test at the Delhi airport. Official sources earlier told PTI in Delhi that after this he had taken a flight to Mumbai.

Meanwhile, Dr Pratibha Panpatil, head of the epidemic cell of Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation, said that six others, who had traveled to the Kalyan-Dombivli region from different countries, have been kept in isolation after testing positive for COVID.

Dr Panpatil said that the samples of these six people have been sent for genome sequencing, the result will be known in the coming days.

“The condition of all six is stable. They are asymptomatic and none of them came from high-risk countries,” she said.

Of the six people, four had traveled from Nigeria, while one each from Russia and Nepal.

Earlier in the day, India reported its fifth case of the Omron variant from Delhi.

The country had detected its first two cases of the Omicron variant from Karnataka earlier this week, while the third and fourth case were reported from Jamnagar and Mumbai in Gujarat respectively.

The center has designated 11 countries as ‘at risk’ nations, including South Africa, Brazil, Zimbabwe, China, Botswana, New Zealand, Israel, Mauritius, Hong Kong, the United Kingdom and Singapore.
