Maharashtra: MSRTC stops services of contractual drivers | Pune News – Times of India

PUNE: The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has decided to let go of a total of 2,176 bus drivers who had been hired on a contractual basis.
Confirming the same, Shekhar Channe, the chairman and managing director of the transport body said that these drivers had been hired to operate buses during the six month strike called by the state transport (ST) employees.
“Now that the strike is over and all our drivers are back on duty, we don’t need their services and hence, the contract has not been renewed,” the official said.
At the Pune division, around 100 such drivers have been removed from service.
“Of the total of more than 2000 drivers, the MSRTC was utilizing around 500 of them only statewide. In Pune, only 40 of them were being utilized. Only in the Bhandara division, we have decided to keep them for the time being as their presence is more. These drivers have helped the MSRTC in the time of need and the transport body is thankful for their service,” another official pointed out.
The official said that the plan to put the MSRTC drivers into psychological training session s was still being formulated. “It is in the final stages at present and we will made an announcement soon on the same,” Channe said.
