Maharashtra halts genome sequencing as 55% samples test omicron positive, new sero survey soon

New Delhi: The Maharashtra Health Department has stopped the genome sequencing of COVID positive samples after 55 per cent of the samples were found to be omicron positive in the previous genome sequencing. According to news agency ANI, fresh survey orders are expected to be issued this week.

Maharashtra is the worst-hit state by the Omicron version of COVID-19 which is reportedly responsible for the huge jump in COVID-19 cases in the country at present.

India recorded 90,928 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Of these, the number of omicrons reached 2,630 with 15,166 in Mumbai in the last 24 hours. of Maharashtra omicron The toll reached 797.

There was an increase of 43.7 per cent from Tuesday to Wednesday with 8,072 cases. As reported by news agency PTI, Maharashtra’s total Covid-19 tally reached 67,57,032, taking the death toll to 1,41,581.

While state officials have ruled out a complete lockdown, strict restrictions may be enforced to contain the spread of the virus. Schools have already been closed in some parts of the state. Along with this, a fine of Rs 500 has also been imposed for not wearing a mask.

Apart from this, a limit of 50 persons has also been imposed for marriage ceremonies and 20 persons for funerals in open spaces.

Maharashtra minister Amit Deshmukh said, “At present, we don’t think there is a need to shut down cinema halls or malls. But if something is to be done in the larger public interest, the state cabinet will discuss these things and the CM will consider it.” Will do. Last call.”
