Maharashtra floods: Death toll rises to 150, CM to conduct aerial survey of affected areas

Mumbai: Around 150 people have died in Maharashtra in several incidents related to floods, landslides and rains. While 100 people are reported missing in rain-related incidents, more than 50 people have been injured. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is expected to conduct an aerial survey of Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur on Monday.

After the visit, Thackeray is expected to hold a meeting with officials and address the press in Satara. Earlier on Sunday, Thackeray visited the flood-hit Chiplun in Ratnagiri district of Konkan region. Locals stopped the Chief Minister’s convoy and shared their concerns due to the rain in the area.

The road leading to Sangli city was also flooded. Boats are now being operated on the roads on which trains used to run. However, getting a boat is also difficult, so people have to pass through waist-deep water.

After heavy rains in Sangli, a large part of the city has been flooded up to 10 feet. The one-storey house has been submerged. NDRF team is engaged in helping thousands of people trapped in the water. In fact, after heavy rains, the water level of the Krishna river, which is called the lifeline of Sangli, was flooded in villages and towns.

Army-NDRF engaged in relief and rescue work

Army is carrying out rescue operations in flood-affected areas of Sangli. NDRF is engaged in relief and rescue operations in Valeria. Hundreds of people have been evacuated so far, but many are still waiting for help.

After the flood, now the danger of crocodile

There is a danger of crocodiles in the areas adjacent to the Krishna river in Sangli. In 2019 also there was flood in Sangli city, but taking lessons from it, the administration is yet to take any steps to save the people from such danger.

CM will not celebrate birthday

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will not celebrate his birthday and urged party workers and citizens not to attend public events on his birthday. A statement issued by the Chief Minister’s Office said, ‘Nature has wreaked havoc on Konkan and western Maharashtra. Many people have died due to floods, many families have been affected. Maharashtra is mourning this disaster. Though July 27 is the birthday of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, he has decided not to celebrate it due to these calamities.

The Chief Minister also said that no one should meet in person to wish him on his birthday and no one should put up hoardings, posters. Instead, he will accept greetings via social media and email.
