Maharashtra: Congress wins Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti by-elections on Sunil Kedar’s aggressive campaign. Nagpur News – Times of India

Nagpur: Aggressive election campaign Maharashtra Minister of Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Sunil Kedar Helped sweep the Congress party District Council And Panchayat Samiti The by-elections held on Tuesday strengthened its current position.
In the results announced on Wednesday, the Grand Old Party won nine seats leaving rival BJP with just three seats. Overall, the Congress improved its tally by two seats, while the BJP lost one seat compared to the earlier elections. Similarly in the PS elections, it won 21 seats, while reducing the BJP to just six.
The saffron party was expected to do better on the issue of scrapping of OBC reservation by the Supreme Court, for which it blamed all the three parties. Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. It also pointed fingers at the MVA constituents – Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP – for their failure to maintain Maratha reservation in the top court. However, unlike the Congress leaders led by Kedar, none of the party’s top leaders took the election seriously or campaigned for their candidates.
According to poll analysts, this is another setback for BJP stalwarts like Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis, even though efforts were made to revive the party after its defeat in the assembly polls. BJP workers said the two leaders did not address a single rally during the entire election campaign, which they claimed was one of the reasons for the party’s poor performance.
The NCP, an old ally of the Congress, too had to bear the brunt of the shortfall of two seats after Tuesday’s election. Analysts attributed the loss to former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, who was missing from the operation in an alleged extortion case registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
BJP’s friend-turned-enemy Shiv Sena was once again rejected by voters as the Uddhav Thackeray-led outfit failed to open its account despite contesting in all 16 seats. In comparison, smaller organizations such as the Gondwana Republican Party (GRP) and Peasant Workers Party (PWP) continued to exist by grabbing a seat each.
Congress workers credited the party’s success to Kedar, who led the election campaign from the front and emphasized personal relationships with voters. Even MPCC chief Nana Patole, District President Rajendra Mulak and Nana Gawande helped the contestants by addressing some rallies.
The BJP’s campaign was led by state general secretary Chandrashekhar Bawankule, MLA Samir Meghe, MLC Parinay Phuke and district president Arvind Gajbhiye, but their efforts failed to increase the party’s numbers.
