Thorat had resigned as CLP leader last week after criticizing the working style of Maharashtra unit chief Nana Patole.

Congress Maharashtra in-charge HK Patil on Sunday said there was no question of accepting Balasaheb Thorat’s resignation as the leader of the legislature party and all misunderstandings would be resolved amicably.

Thorat had resigned as CLP leader last week after criticizing the working style of Maharashtra unit chief Nana Patole.

Talking to reporters after meeting Thorat, Patil said the former would attend all India Congress Committee meeting in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur on February 24 and will meet party president Mallikarjun Kharge and AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal.

Patil said he had apprised Kharge and Venugopal about Thorat’s “hurt feelings” and the recent developments in the party’s state unit.

“I apprised him about the development and the hurt feelings. Congress is a family and such issues come up. We will sort them out among ourselves, Patil said.

He also said that such infighting will not harm the party as things are good and will improve.

“There is no question of accepting Thorat’s resignation as CLP leader. I requested him to attend the plenary session, which he has accepted,” Patil said, not discussing the Maharashtra Legislative Council election defeat for the party that included Satyajit Tambe.

The Congress was left high and dry after its official candidate for the Nashik division graduate seat, Sudhir Tambe, refused to contest and successfully fielded his son Satyajit Tambe as an independent.

After his victory, Satyajit Tambe accused Patole of hatching a conspiracy to defame his family and deprive him of the opportunity to contest the MLC election.

Tambe is a relative of Thorat, whose silence during the campaign for the MLC elections while recovering from a shoulder injury was misinterpreted by some sections of the party as tacit support.

On the rift since the MLC polls, Patil said, “There has been no communication between Thorat and Patole. Thorat, who is recovering from a shoulder injury, refused to divulge details of his meeting with Patil, saying it was an internal matter of the Congress.

“The media need not blow things out of proportion. I will go to Raipur (for the full session). All the issues raised by me in the meeting with Patil were about strengthening the party,” Thorat said.

Asked whether he would continue as CLP leader. Thorat said that this is an internal matter of the Congress.
