Maharashtra: CM Eknath Shinde withdraws Uddhav Thackeray’s MLC nomination list, to submit new names | Mumbai News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Chief minister Eknath Shinde last week sent a letter to governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, saying that the proposal for nomination of experts on the state legislative council made by his predecessor Uddhav Thackeray stands withdrawn.
According to a state official, it’s a procedure that the proposal submitted by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government is being withdrawn following the change of political leadership in the state. “The MVA government had submitted a list of 12 names to the Raj Bhavan. The new government led by Eknath Shinde took the view that the list should be withdrawn and a fresh list should be submitted to Koshyari. Now, the cabinet has authorised Shinde to submit a fresh list to the governor,” the senior official said.
While Thackeray took over the reins of the state in November 2019, the cabinet on November 12, 2020, submitted a list of 20 eminent persons from different walks of life to Koshyari for appointment on the legislative council. Since the proposal was approved by the cabinet, it was assumed that Koshyari would approve it and declare the names of the 12 nominees.
But since Koshyari and the MVA government were at loggerheads, no decision was taken on the appointments. In fact, senior MVA cabinet members had twice personally called on the governor to press for the appointments, but there was no response.
Later a public interest litigation too was filed before the Bombay high court, which said that the governor should declare his decision on the matter within a reasonable period.
