Maharashtra allows reopening of schools for classes 8-12 in urban areas, 5-8 in rural areas

New Delhi: Amidst the decline in corona cases, the Maharashtra government on Tuesday announced some more relief. Permission has been given to reopen all schools from class 5th to 8th in rural areas of the state. However, permission has been given to open in urban areas from class 8th to 12th. The final decision will be taken by the district and local authorities after reviewing the situation.

Class XI entrance exam canceled

The Bombay High Court on Tuesday quashed the Maharashtra government’s order to conduct the Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to class XI. The CET was scheduled to be held on August 21 for students who have passed class X for admission in class XI.

A bench of Justice RD Dhanuka and Justice RI Chagla quashed the notification issued by the state government on May 28. It is written in the notification that CET will be conducted for all the students associated with the board, who have passed 10th, on the basis of which they will be able to take the exam. To choose the college of your choice to take admission in class XI.

“The state government has no power to issue such notification and this court can interfere in the matter of such injustice,” the bench said. The court directed the state government to start admission of students in class XI on the basis of marks obtained in class X and internal assessment and complete the entire admission process within six weeks.

The High Court passed the order on a petition filed by Ananya Patki, a student of IES Orion School affiliated to the ICSE board, and an intervention petition by four IGCSE students.
