The incident took place at Oneleswadi High School when children of classes 5 and 7 prepared rice and pulses at the central kitchen run by a self-help group, an official said.

At least 36 students fell ill due to food poisoning in Maharashtra’s Sangli on Friday, an official said. All were shifted to the hospital, where 35 were discharged after treatment, while one was kept under observation, he said.

The incident took place at Wanleswadi High School when children of classes 5 and 7 prepared rice and pulses at the central kitchen run by a self-help group, he said.

“After having the mid-day meal, 36 students complained of stomach pain and nausea and many of them vomited. One child is still hospitalized due to abdominal pain. He has been given saline and his condition is stable.

“Samples of food from the school and the central kitchen have been sent to a laboratory for testing. Gaikwad said a three-member committee has been formed to probe the matter.
