Mahant Narendra Giri death: UP government recommends a CBI probe into the death of the influential saint

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday recommended a CBI inquiry into the death of Mahant Narendra Giri, president of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, the state home department said.

It said in a tweet, “On the instructions of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a probe has been recommended to CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) in the incident related to the tragic death of Akhara Parishad President Mahant Narendra Giri.” Hindi.

The influential Hindu saint was found dead in Allahabad’s Baghambri Muth on Monday. His body was found hanging from the ceiling by his disciples.

In the suicide letter, Mahant had written that he was mentally disturbed and was ending his life. The seer wrote that he was upset with one of his disciples. According to a Hindustan Times report, a post-mortem report by Hindu saint Narendra Giri suggested that the holy man may have died of asphyxiation. He was cremated in Prayagraj.

The Uttarakhand Police on Monday detained Mahant Anand Giri, a disciple of Mahant Narendra Giri, for abetting his guru’s suicide.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted by the UP government to probe the death of the influential Hindu guru. UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday promised not to spare any culprits in the case. Stating that evidence has been collected regarding the death of the seer, Adityanath said the matter would be resolved soon. On Wednesday, Anand Giri was sent to judicial custody for 14 days.

Anand Giri, on the other hand, told reporters that he was ready to face any probe in the matter. He said that Mahant Narendra Giri was murdered by some vested interests who had earlier created a dispute between him and the senior Mahant.

He also demanded a probe into the role of some people living with Narendra Giri, who had allegedly duped crores of rupees from the ashram.
