An 18-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the death of late Akhara Parishad president Mahant Narendra Giri, who committed suicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Monday. Two officers of the rank of CO have been inducted into the SIT.

Earlier, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who paid last respects to the saint in Prayagraj, said all aspects related to the death of top saint Mahant Narendra Giri were being probed and the culprits would be punished.

The influential Hindu saint was found dead in Allahabad’s Baghambri Muth on Monday. He was the president of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, the largest organization of sadhus in India.

Police is working as a team under ADG (Allahabad Zone) and Commissioner, Allahabad, Chief Minister who reached Allahabad to pay respect to the seer, he told reporters there.

Stating that evidence has been collected regarding the death of the seer, Adityanath said the matter would be resolved soon. He said that every aspect related to the case will be exposed and the guilty will be punished.

As per the wishes of the seer’s followers, the body will be kept for “darshan” (public darshan) on Tuesday so that people can have their last darshan, Adityanath said, adding that a five-member team will conduct the post-mortem examination. on Wednesday.

After that, he will be buried in a ‘samadhi’ as per religious rites and beliefs, the chief minister said. According to the police, the sadhu’s body was found hanging from the ceiling by his disciples on Monday.

A seven-eight-page purported suicide note was also found from that place, in which the seer had written that he was mentally disturbed and was ending his life. The seer had written that he was angry with one of his disciples, he said.
