An official said on Tuesday that the Maharashtra State Commission for Women has written a letter to the Mumbai Police Commissioner asking the police to look into the demand for security of model and social media influencer Urfi Javed. He said that Javed had submitted a complaint letter to MSCW claiming that BJP leader Chitra Wagh had filed a complaint against him for political gains and had threatened to beat him up during his media interaction. Javed said that she was feeling unsafe outside her house.

In his letter, Javed sought security and the MSCW asked the Mumbai Police to look into his complaint seriously, the official said. Last week, Javed met MSCW chairperson Rupali Chakankar. “The MSCW wrote a letter to the Mumbai Police Commissioner on Monday asking the police to look into the demand for security for Urofi Javed,” the official said.

The Mumbai Police on Saturday recorded Javed’s statement in connection with a complaint filed against him by Chitra Wagh. Wagh, who heads the women’s wing of the Maharashtra BJP, lodged a complaint against Javed for dressing “inappropriately” in public places. A police officer said that after being called for questioning by the police, Javed had gone to the Amboli police station to record his statement.
