Of 13 such ‘bombs’ which they have allegedly confessed so far, four were placed in Rewa district leaving police in tizzy for over three weeks. Two of these bomb-like devices were found on Republic Day, along with a letter which mentioned Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and the UP elections. There was also a demand of Rs 8 cr with threat that if the money wasn’t given then the bridge would be blown up. Another such device had been found on January 21. Concerned, the state police had set up a special investigation team (SIT).
All three devices were found near underpasses and bridges on NH30. It’s learn that a similar device was found in Prayagraj on January 12.
The first one in MP was found in Rewa’s Suhagi area, barely 10km from the UP border, last Friday. The other two were found near Mangawan bridge (45km from Suhagi) and Gangev underpass – 15km apart. Local residents spotted the suspicious objects and informed police. The MP Anti-Terrorist Squad and intelligence were also alerted. Word spread like wildlife in the region just when the administration and residents were gearing up for R-Day. A policeman had found a handwritten note, mentioning Yogi Adityanath and Prayagraj Policesources said.
Similar device was found in Prayagraj’s Meja Road Railway underpass on January 12. Trains on the route were held up as the bomb squad went to work. It turned out that someone had put together disposable water bottles, a timer connected and an electric wire. The bottles were covered in red tape, making it look like a bomb, said police. The devices found in Rewa on R-Day also had red tape and were made up of pipes and boxes.
Also, on June 9, 2016 similar bomb was found at the Meja railway division. Bomb disposal squad had been hastened to the spot and the area was evacuated. Trains to and from the station were stopped until the bomb is defused, said sources. It was found under the foot over bridge at the Meja railway station. Bomb disposal squad after initial checks had found it to a prank with the bomb consisting of wires wrapped around paper cylinders made of sugarcane parts. That time also a letter was found with the ‘bomb’ demanding Rs 2 crore and had threatened that if the money wasn’t given then he would blow up the station. Another such ‘bomb’ was found near the Meja railway station on November 15, 2015.
“There could be more of the cases. We need some time to interrogate them and carry out our investigations. Main issue is to understand their motive,” said Rewa SP,
