Madhya Pradesh announces night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am amid rise in Covid cases

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government imposed night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am from Thursday till further orders in view of the increase in the number of Kovid-19 cases.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who announced this in a video message on Twitter, said further steps would be taken if necessary.

He stressed that the time has come for everyone to be on alert regarding the highly contagious Omicron variant.

“Omicron is expanding rapidly. In England about one lakh cases are being reported every day, in the United States also about 2.5 lakh cases are being reported every day,” he said.

Chouhan urged the people to take all precautions to ensure that the third wave of COVID does not strike and there is no further increase in cases.

The Chief Minister urged the people of the state to wear masks and maintain social distance while ensuring the COVID vaccination at the earliest.

Expressing concern over the rising cases in Indore and Bhopal, he said, “We cannot forget the problems faced during the second wave.”

So far more than 10 crore vaccine doses have been given against Kovid-19 in Madhya Pradesh.

However, the state has not reported any case of the highly contagious Omicron type so far.

Earlier in the day, a health official said that around 14 foreign travelers who landed at Indore airport in the past one month have tested positive for Covid-19.

Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr BS Saitya said that in the last one month, out of 3300 persons who came to Indore from abroad from different airports of the country, 2100 were screened.

He further said that 14 of them tested positive for the viral infection and added that their samples have been sent to the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) for genome sequencing to ascertain whether they have contracted it. omicron edition, PTI reported.
