Gymnast Aruna Budda Reddy, who won India’s first medal at the Gymnastics World Cup, on Thursday accused her of videographing a fitness test without informing her. Aruna has alleged that a coach of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) did video-graphy during the physical fitness test without her consent. This fitness test took place in the month of March this year at the IGI Stadium in Delhi.

Aruna Budda Reddy won the bronze medal in the Gymnastics World Cup held in Melbourne in the year 2018. With this, she became the first Indian woman to win a medal for the country in the Gymnastics World Cup.

Recently the Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI) has informed that it has not authorized or ordered any person to record the fitness test on its behalf. After this, gymnast Aruna has warned of legal action against the coach.

The incident dates back to March 24, 2022, when Aruna Reddy, along with her coach Manoj Rana, had come to Delhi for a fitness test as per the GFI’s instructions ahead of the Baku World Cup. The federation had constituted a six-member committee for this, in which the chairman of the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) technical committee and Rio Olympian Dipa Karmakar’s coach, Bishweshwar Nandi, SAI’s coach Rohit Jaiswal and Ashok Mishra, Dr. Manoj Patil. Besides these, a male and female physio who were associated with the Gymnastics National Camp at IGI.

Videography done without consent

According to Aruna, the video of the fitness test of his injured knee was recorded in the personal mobile of one of the coaches present there without his consent. On May 24, the Telangana gymnast received a letter from the GFI President, which read that the federation had not ordered videography of her test even though she was videographed during the test.

Aruna wrote in response to the GFI President that a video of my fitness test was made. I have evidence to prove my point. So, I request you to help me get the video from them.
