Mumbai: Vidya Balan-starrer ‘Lion’, anthology ‘Ludo’, ‘Soorarai Pottru’ directed by Suriya and Biswajit Bora’s ‘God on the Balcony’ nominated for top honors at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2021 Is.
The award ceremony will take place virtually on August 20. The festival is presented by the Victorian Government in Australia. It is an annual festival that takes place in Melbourne, Australia, now in its 12th edition, IFFM 2021 has gone virtual as well as physical due to the global pandemic.
This year the festival is launching three categories under web shows. The festival will recognize Best Series, Best Performance in each series under the Actor and Actress category.
This list of names includes extraordinary films of 2021 such as ‘Ludo’ directed by Anurag Basu, Vidya Balan-starrer ‘Lion’ directed by Amit Masukar, ‘Soorarai Potru’ (Tamil) which stars and produced by Suriya and directed by Sudha Kongara. Huh. and ‘God on the Balcony’, an Assamese film starring Harish Khanna and directed by Biswajit Bora.
This year’s best documentary features some of the most compelling stories including ‘Shut Up Sona’, ‘Womb’, ‘About Mamma’.
The winners of Best Film, Best Indie Film and Best Documentary each win a state-of-the-art camera from Black Magic Design in addition to an award. Another highlight is that the Best Film winner gets a nod to a nomination under the Best Asian Film category at the annual prestigious AACTA (Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards).
Malayalam films ‘Kayattam’, ‘Lootcase’, ‘Ludo’, ‘Lioness’, ‘Soorarai Pottru’ and ‘Tasher Ghavar’ will compete in the Best Film category.
For Best Indie Film, ‘Fire in the Mountains’, ‘God on the Balcony’, ‘Laila Aur Sat Geet – Gojri’, ‘Nasir’, ‘Pinky Alley?’, ‘Seththuman’, ‘Sthalapuran’, ‘The Great’ ‘. Indian Kitchen has been nominated.
Names like Rajkummar Rao, Suriya, Pankaj Tripathi, Neel Deshmukh, Kaumarane Valavane, Jitin Puthanchery, Harish Khanna and Benjamin Daimary are in the Best Actor category.
The nominees for Best Actress are Vidya Balan, Rasika Duggal, Swastika Mukherjee, Kani Kusruthi and Reema Kalingal.
Ali Fazal, Divyendu, Manoj Bajpayee, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub, Pankaj Tripathi and Saif Ali Khan are nominated for Best Performance (Male) – Series.
Names like Neena Gupta, Prajakta Koli, Rasika Duggal, Samantha Akkineni, Shahana Goswami and Shweta Tripathi Sharma have been nominated for Best Performance (Female) Series.
