Ludhiana: Pooja, a resident of Cantonment Mohalla, died on Sunday. DMCH Six days later on Thursday, he attempted suicide. His family members have claimed to have recorded their statement with the police and handed over a copy of the suicide note. Though the police have not registered an FIR yet. FIR.
The woman has accused police inspector Bittan Kumar, her councilor father and 12 people in the suicide note. Surinder Atwal and brother Sajan Atwal for allegedly trying to usurp his property. The woman had attempted suicide at her home on July 2 and her relatives lodged a complaint with Commissioner of Police Rakesh Agrawal on July 3, following which Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police-1 Pragya Jain was marked for investigation.
Pooja’s mother Amar Kaur told TOI, ‘I want justice for my daughter. He was being harassed as the accused wanted to grab our property. Even the police is not listening to us and is harassing us. The police have recorded our statements.”
Pooja’s half-brother Navdeep Sethi said, ‘The police is harassing me instead of registering a case. Since Pooja’s mother is an elderly woman and illiterate too, I am taking this matter forward. Inspector Bittan Kumar has been threatening to implicate us in different cases. My life is also in danger. I have stopped going home out of fear as the police can take me to the police station anytime to pressurize me.”
“The police is asking us to hand over the original suicide note, but we have submitted a copy. We fear that they will destroy the original note. I am so fed up with the system that I even feel like committing suicide. I have also written a suicide note and handed it over to a close friend.”
On Friday, the family members of Pooja met the Joint Commissioner of Police (City) Deepak Pareek With a complaint to file a fresh FIR. It has been said in the complaint that in 2013, Amar Kaur wanted to get her properties transferred in the name of Pooja. Amar Kaur being illiterate, she sought help from the accused councilor and real estate businessmen. But they fraudulently transferred the property in the name of accused Ravinder Singh, son-in-law of realty Gurcharan Singh, and another property in the name of Pradeep Kumar, brother-in-law of Councilor Surinder Atwal. The family said they were unaware of it until 2019, when they received court summons to vacate the property. Since then the accused have been harassing Pooja and her mother to vacate the house, the complaint said, adding that the accused threatened to implicate them in false cases. In the complaint, three step-sisters of Pooja and a step-brother-in-law have also been named for grabbing Amar Kaur’s FD.
Inspector Bittan Kumar said that the allegations are false, which will be proved in the investigation.
