Ludhiana: Toddler critical after mother depressed over married life sets him on fire | Ludhiana News – Times of India

LUDHIANA: Allegedly depressed over her disturbed married life, a woman set her three-and-a-half years old son on fire after pouring mobiloil on him in Ghudani Kalan village in Punjab.
The woman, along with her three children, were living at her parental house for the past two years, due to her strained relationship with her husband.
The toddler has been referred to PGIMER Chandigarh, where his condition has been stated critical as he has suffered 60 per cent burns.
In this matter the Payal police lodged an FIR against the mother Rupinder Kaur, on the statement of Rupinder’s mother Manjit Kaur.
Assistant commissioner of police, Payal, Harsimrant Singh said that Rupinder is under mental depression because of her dispute with her husband. She has been living with her parents for the past two years with her three children.
The injured Harman (3) is the youngest among her three children.
According to Rupinder’s family, Harman was crying and Rupinder was unable to control her. She got irritated and set him on fire.
On hearing his cries, Manjit Kaur rushed there and doused off the fire by pouring water on him.
ACP added that the family rushed the boy to a local hospital from where he was referred to Civil Hospital Ludhiana and from there the doctors referred him to PGIMER Chandigarh.
An FIR under sections 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC and Juvenile Justice Act has been lodged against the accused woman.
