LUDHIANA: The PAU police on Sunday arrested five men for executing a dacoity at the shop of a scrap dealer. On August 15, the accused had barged into Razi Ahmad‘s shop in Amrit Colony, Panj Peer Road, and robbed him of Rs 22,500.
Those arrested are Yogesh Kumar of Haibowal, Balwinder Balli of Gopal Nagar, Ricky Kumar, Rajan and Sawan of Jain Colony. The main accused, Pawan Talli of Haibowal, is on the run.
Scrap dealer Razi Ahmad said, “My shop is on the ground floor of my house. On August 15, I, along with another scrap dealer, was at the shop when four masked men barged in around 8pm. They were armed with blunt and sharp-edged weapons. They attacked the other dealer with a blunt weapon. As they tried to attack me, I rushed upstairs to save myself.”
“Thereafter, they took out Rs 22,500 from my cash drawer and escaped. CCTVs, which are installed inside and outside my house, had captured the incident. The cameras had also captured two accomplices of the robbers standing outside the shop,” he added.
PAU police station assistant sub-inspector Resham Singh said, “Main accused Pawan Talli, who is at large, is also a scrap dealer. As he was aware that Razi keeps cash in his shop, he hatched the robbery plan.”
Yogesh already has a robbery case against him. Balwinder was facing a snatching FIR and Sawan a theft case, he added. The police have recovered Rs 10,000 of the robbed money, one bike, one scooter and a blunt and a sharp-edged weapon from them.
Razi Ahmad said a year ago, too, a man had robbed him of Rs 65,000 at his shop. With the help of his neighbours, he had nabbed the accused and handed him over to the police.
