Mayor Balkar SandhuHowever, on Tuesday assured the members of the association that strict action would be taken against the accused and they also spoke to the police commissioner to register an FIR.
The members of the association submitted a memorandum to Mayor Sandhu regarding their demands. In the memorandum, he wrote about the entire incident where JE Naresh Kumar was allegedly slapped by the shop owner and his son. Municipal officials claimed that a shopkeeper in Tagore Nagar took illegal sewer connection and damaged the new road.
When the matter came to notice, the authorities issued notice to the owner of the property who replied that he had permission to cut the road. The receipt shown by the owner was of February 2021 which is not valid enough as it is applicable only for three months. The owner had damaged the road a few days back.
JE Naresh Kumar had gone to take action against the owner but the shopkeeper, his son and his associates gheraoed JE and his team. The officials alleged that the MC team was attacked and when they reached the spot, they also took out the rod.
Mayor Balkar Sandhu said, ‘I have taken up the matter with the CP and strict action will be taken against those who raise their hands on the government employee. He said that he has told the employees not to behave rudely with the public, but when people do so they have to take action.
Meanwhile, the association’s patron Ashwini Sahota suggested to the mayor that he should initiate the FIR registration process at his level as he has DSP rank officers in the MC so that he can easily take up the matter with the senior officers. The mayor, however, claimed that he would think about it.
