LUDHIANA: The Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) chief and Atam Nagar MLA Simarjit Singh Bains Simarjit Singh Bains booked for allegedly raping 44-year-old woman
Six others, including his brothers, have been booked for criminal conspiracy.
The First Information Report (FIR) was registered on July 10, though the Ludhiana police hid it till Monday.
The FIR was registered following a local court’s order issued on July 7 that a criminal case should be registered without any further delay.
The accused have been identified as MLA- Atam Nagar constituency Simarjit Singh Bains, his brothers Karamjit Singh, Paramjit Singh Pamma, workers Baljinder Kaur, Jasbir Kaur Bhabhi, Sukhchain Singh and PA Gopi Sharma.
The FIR has been registered under sections 376 (rape), 354 (sexual assault), 354-B (sexual assault), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The woman alleged that between April 2020 and October 2020, Bains raped her several times.
He had lodged a complaint against Bains and his associates with Police Commissioner Rakesh Agarwal on November 16, following which an investigation was conducted.
Apart from this, the woman had also approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court in this matter. The matter is still pending in the High Court.
The woman, who is a widow, said that after the death of her husband she was unable to pay the EMI of her home loan after which the bank officials were harassing her.
Meanwhile, during the Lok Sabha election campaign in April 2019, she met Simarjit Singh Bains, who advised her to sell the house.
Bains also contacted Sukhchain Singh, a realtor who sold the house. The realtor gave him Rs 4.50 lakh and also got him a plot in Jassowal village.
However, he wanted money so he asked the realtor to sell the plot and give him cash.
The realtor was paying a meager amount, at which he called on Bains to intervene. Bains asked him to come to his office. There the MLA raped her in his cabin.
Thereafter, Bains threatened her and asked her to develop a physical relationship. Then Bains called the realtor and asked him to pay the money.
The woman further alleged that when she met the realtor to collect money, he also forced her to develop a physical relationship with Bains to collect more money.
The MLA kept calling him to his office and to the house of Jasbir Kaur Bhabhi, a lady worker of LIP who lives near his office. There the MLA raped her several times.
The woman further said that the MLA’s younger brother Karamjit Bains also threatened her and sent obscene messages.
The woman also alleged that PA Gopi Sharma had threatened her father to withdraw the complaint.
Inspector Amandeep Singh Brar, SHO, Division No. 6, said, “Police had registered a case on the directions of the court. Further investigation is on and the accused will be arrested soon.”
Even after several attempts, MLA Bains could not be contacted for his statement.
