Low-end Google TV Chromecast may cost 40% less: What to expect – Times of India

Google is planning to unveil a low-end Chromecast with Google TV which is expected to be compatible with TVs that support HD resolution. This new Chromecast will be reportedly known as the “HD” model and is expected to launch soon.
The California-headquartered tech giant introduced the first Chromecast with Google TV in the US in 2020 and it arrived in the Indian market two years after the initial release. According to a report by 9to5Google, the next version of the device is on its way and its speculated pricing has been tipped online.

Earlier, the upcoming version of Google TV Chromecast was reported to be in the making and the product was speculated to be a “low-end” device designed for HD TVs rather than the 4K models that are compatible with the existing Chromecast. Moreover, in June, a device matching the same description was also approved by the FCC. The current model also started shipping in new packaging that includes “4K” on the box, which was likely done to differentiate it from the upcoming HD model.
Google TV Chromecast HD model: Expected price and availability
The upcoming Google TV Chromecast’s arrival is rumoured to be ‘imminent’ as the report mentioned that the lower-priced product has already started making its way to the “retail dealers.” However, the release date is not mentioned clearly in the report and more details are expected to surface before the recently announced Google event (to be held on October 6) where the company is set to unveil the Pixel 7 and Pixel Watch.
The upcoming Google TV Chromecast HD version is presumed to be priced at €39.99 (roughly around Rs 3,200) in Europe. This price is about 40% less than the 4K version of Google’s content streaming device which is available at €69.99 (around Rs 5,500) in Europe. Currently, Google charges the same price, €39.99, for the existing Chromecast dongle that comes without Google TV which was introduced in 2018.

Other products expected from Google
Google is rumoured to announce other related products along with the upcoming Google TV Chromecast HD. The company will reportedly unveil the Wi-Fi 6 version of the Nest Wifi which was previously reported to be under development and a refreshed version of the wired-only Nest Doorbell that will support 24/7 recording.
