Devotees burst fireworks in the sky as they celebrate the festival of Purab, in Amritsar today. The Prakash Parv of Guru Gobind Singh is being celebrated on 9th January this year.

Born in Patna Sahib, Bihar, Gobind Rai, Guru Gobind Singh was the 10th and last Guru of the Sikhs in human form. After the martyrdom of his father, the ninth Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur, he was enthroned at the age of nine in the ‘Guru Gaddi’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his greetings on the occasion today. He tweeted, “Congratulations on the Prakash Purb of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. His life and message gives strength to millions. I will always cherish the fact that our government got an opportunity to mark his 350th Prakash Utsav Sharing some glimpses. My Patna Yatra at that time”.

Meanwhile, in view of Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has allowed devotees to offer prayers at gurdwaras on Sunday during the weekend curfew in Delhi.
