The French Open semi-final between Casper Roode and Marin Cilic was momentarily put on hold when a climate protest activist entered court and tied herself to a net in Paris on Friday, June 3. The protester was wearing a T-shirt with ‘We have 1028 days left’ and the security personnel took it away. At that point, the players went back to their dressing rooms and later returned to continue the match.

The second semi-final between Rudd and Marin Cilic was a fairly straightforward affair, with the Norwegians dominating the Croatian after losing the first set. Rudd, who opened the match trying to defend a big shot off Cilic, decided to take the attack from the second set and immediately found the reward.

The 23-year-old, after losing the first set 3-6, came back 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 against Cilic to reach the final against his idol Rafael Nadal. Roode currently trains at the Nadal Academy and is one of the best players on the clay surface after the maestro himself.

Speaking after the game, the player said he was looking forward to the final on Sunday and it would be a great honor for him to face Nadal for the first time in his career.

Earlier in the day, Nadal’s marathon bout against German Alexander Zverev was cut short after three hours and 13 minutes after the German sprained his ankle while trying to hit a forehand. Zverev broke down in pain and could not continue after that. He was taken in a wheelchair and forced to retire from the incident.
