The Congress leader alleged, “Corporate donations are a way of expressing thanks to the government for the many favors it has received over the years.”

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram has alleged that a major chunk of the electoral bonds worth over Rs 12,000 crore sold so far have been anonymously donated by corporates to the BJP, claiming that corporate donations give the government a lot of money. There is a way to say thank you for “favors”.

The former Union finance minister also wondered why corporates were so keen to donate through the ‘non-transparent electoral bond mechanism’.

“Electoral bonds worth over Rs 12,000 crore have been sold so far. A huge amount has been bought by corporates and donated anonymously to the BJP,” Chidambaram alleged in a series of tweets on Monday night.

He said that corporates do not donate through electoral bonds because they love democracy.

The Congress leader alleged, “Corporate donations are a way of expressing thanks to the government for the many favors it has received over the years.”

“It is a clean system. Favors are done quietly. Rewards are received in secret. Long live our anonymous democracy.”
