Lok Sabha 2024: Ghulam Nabi Azad Backs Out Of Polls; But Why

Ghulam Nabi Azad, leader of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), has decided not to run in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Previously, Azad was selected by the DPAP as its nominee from the Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary constituency.

He announced his decision during a meeting in Anantnag on Wednesday.

On April 2, former Union Minister Azad was chosen to contest from the Anantnag-Rajouri seat.

“DPAP Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad will contest the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat,” Chief Spokesperson of the party Salman Nizami had shared on X following a DPAP working committee meeting.

Azad’s candidacy for the DPAP would have seen him compete against former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti of the PDP and National Conference’s senior leader Mian Altaf Ahmad, who is representing the INDIA bloc.
