NOIDA: Around 58,600 cases taken up and Rs 34 crore collected as disposals during the first national of the year Lok Adalat officials said in Gautam Budh Nagar on Saturday.
Lok Adalat is an alternative dispute redressal mechanism where cases pending before courts or at pre-trial stage can be settled or settled. Lok Adalats are operated by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and other legal service institutions.
The idea behind organizing Lok Adalats is to reduce the burden on the courts. The decision of Lok Adalats is binding on all its parties and no appeal can be made, but one party aggrieved by the outcome can initiate legal proceedings before the court.
The matter was heard at the district and tehsil level under the supervision of GB Nagar District Judge Ashok Kumar on Saturday.
Of the 58,652 cases heard, 22,988 were settled in district courts, 11,366 in revenue courts and 482 in earlier stages. Several cases pending at the department level were also resolved and taken up by some 4,600 virtual courts, officials said on Sunday.
More than Rs 4 crore was recovered in 47 cases in revenue courts, Rs 6.61 crore in 114 vehicle accident cases and more than Rs 5 lakh in 32 cases in family courts. Jai Hind KumarSecretary, District Legal Services Authority.
“The total settlement fee collected during the course of the court was Rs 34.38 crore,” he said.
The resolved cases included 27 cases of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), 16 of Noida Power Company Limited (NPCL), 13,795 of Transport Department and 9,978 of e-invoicing.
Six cases related to SC/ST Act were settled during Lok Adalat. A fine of over Rs 4.69 lakh was imposed in the trial of six cases related to the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. The hearing was conducted both online and physically.
