Panaji: Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held private meetings with legislators and legislators ahead of Goa elections early next year. Local Political parties on Friday, though the meetings were described as a “courtesy call”, gave rise to speculations that the West Bengal outfit was trying to persuade Goa MPs to join the TMC bandwagon.
Madkai MGP MLA Ramkrishna Dhavalikar along with his brother Pandurang, MGP party chief met Banerjee at the International Center Goa (ICG). Independent MLA from Provorim Rohan Khunte and NCP’s lone NCP MLA from Benaulim Churchill Alemao also met the West Bengal CM, where he called for unity of opposition forces.
“Mamata Banerjee is a tall leader and she has come to Goa. Prashant Kishor is in touch with me and we have had one or two meetings. it was a courtesy call Get Make him understand more what is his vision for Goa, what are his plans for Goa,” Khunte said after their meeting.

The Alemao, who had taken his daughter Valanka to meet Banerjee, expressed a similar sentiment to the TMC chief.
Former deputy CM Ramakrishna Dhavalikar said the question of an alliance with TMC does not arise as Banerjee has already clearly stated that her party will contest all 40 seats.
“She has already announced that she will contest all 40 seats, so the question of alliance does not arise,” he said. And we have also said that we will not join any other party,” Dhavalikar said. He said that if Congress leader Rahul Gandhi invites MGP for the meeting, he will go.
