Liverpool win FA Cup on penalties against Chelsea, keep unprecedented quadruple hopes alive

Liverpool kept their chances of completing an unprecedented quadruple alive by clinching the FA Cup title on Saturday. Jurgen Klopp’s men defeated Chelsea 6-5 on penalties in the Wembley final.

Liverpool kept their hopes of completing the unprecedented quadruple alive as the Reds won the FA Cup after an absorbing final against Chelsea on Saturday. Liverpool prevailed 6-5 in a penalty shootout after it ended 0-0 after the extra time.

It was Liverpool’s first FA Cup final triumph since 2006 and the second trophy this season after the League Cup victory in February which was also decided by a penalty shootout.

Substitute player Kostas Tsimikas scored the winning penalty on Saturday as Liverpool fans at the Wembley erupted in joy. Sadio Mane missed but Chelsea fell behind after Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta had hit the post and Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson had saved Mason Mount’s effort.

SALAH INJURY

However, Liverpool suffered a blow as their top-scorer Mohamed Salah picked up an injury. Salah went down with no other players around him and he received treatment on his right knee before he was able to walk off unaided.

Salah was replaced in the 33rd minute by Diogo Jota with the game locked at 0-0, where it was also at halftime.
Liverpool are three points behind Manchester City with 2 more games to go in the race for the Premier League title.

The Reds will face Southampton on Tuesday and the Wolves next Sunday.

Liverpool will meet Real Madrid in the Champions League final on May 28.
