In such a situation, the liquor shop will remain closed for 48 consecutive hours from Friday to Sunday at 6 pm. This news is very sad for alcoholics. But this decision had to be taken keeping the elections in mind.

Meanwhile, as per the rules of the Excise Department, all bars, clubs and liquor shops will remain closed in Kolkata for two days before the Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections. Hence, long lines were seen at every liquor shop on Thursday. However, the liquor shop will remain closed on December 21, the day the results of Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections are declared.

At the same time, the liquor shop can open one day at a time. That is, December 20. But whether it will remain open everywhere is questionable. The Commissioner of Police in Kolkata has already visited each DC office and held meetings. Kolkata city is taking extra precautions to prevent any untoward incident on election day.

The blueprint of the police security system has been submitted to the State Election Commission. The state police and Kolkata police are encircling the entire city like this. This is because the Calcutta High Court has rejected the BJP’s application for deployment of central forces in the Kolkata civic polls. The state’s DGP and Calcutta Police Commissioner will have to answer to the High Court for any kind of uproar in the elections. That’s why security circles have been created.
