There is a curfew in Libya due to the rise in COVID-19.

The Libyan government has imposed a curfew due to rising COVID-19 infections, while nationwide vaccinations continue.

The curfew will last from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am for two weeks, Xinhua news agency reported on Monday.

Addressing the media, Health Minister Ali Janati confirmed that the COVID-19 isolation centers in western Libya were overcrowded.

The country’s health ministry announced on 24 July that it was to launch an “extraordinary” vaccination campaign.

According to the ministry, Libya has received more than 1 million COVID-19 vaccine doses, and more doses are expected soon. The campaign aims to vaccinate 1 million people over the age of 18.

More than 500,000 people have been vaccinated across the country so far.

Several temporary vaccination centers were set up in the capital, Tripoli, with more facilities to be built in the western, eastern and southern cities.

Other protective measures the Libyan government has adopted recently include a ban on public gatherings, public transport, and the closure of restaurants and coffee shops. Earlier this month, the government closed the border with Tunisia due to the high number of infections.

According to the National Center for Disease Control, Libya has so far recorded a total of 236,961 coronavirus cases and 3,398 deaths.
