Gurugram: One of the most popular bird sanctuaries of NCR now has legal protection around it. area up to 5km from the borders of Sultanpur National Park has been declared as environmentally sensitive areas from Haryana Forest and Wildlife Department.
Fifteen revenue estates, comprising 22 villages, will now come under the eco-sensitive zone.

A Zonal Master Plan for the area was notified on 18 June. According to him, no construction will be allowed within 300 meters of the sanctuary. Laying of new high tension transmission lines will also not be allowed up to 500 meters from the National Park.
Eco-sensitive zones are divided into five categories. The first layer is a 300 m buffer from the boundaries of the park. The second is up to 500 m from the boundaries, the third is up to a radius of 1 km, the fourth is up to 3 km and the last layer is up to 5 km to the outer boundary of the eco-sensitive zone.
Towards the east the boundary of the national park will be Gurgaon-Pataudi Railway LineWhich is also the urban area limit for the notified Gurgaon-Manesar Urban Complex Development Plan-2031. To the south of the national park is the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) Expressway.
Each area of ​​the eco-sensitive zone will have different rules. No new wood based industries can come up within 1 km of the boundaries of the National Park. Any polluting industry notified by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), and brick kilns will not be allowed within 3 km.
Buildings with more than two storeys (maximum height 30 ft) cannot be constructed within an area between 300 m and 500 m, which is a protected area. No new commercial construction will be permitted within 3 km of the park. Mining, stone quarrying and crushing units cannot come within a radius of 5 km. Single use plastic is banned in the entire area. Discharge of untreated and solid waste is prohibited.
Officials said that no mobile tower can come up within 3 km of the sanctuary and no new hot mix and RMC plants will be allowed. The use of air pressure horns and loudspeakers is prohibited within 1 km of the forest and the burning of paddy, wheat straw and solid waste is prohibited. No glazed glass building can come within 3 km of the boundary of Sultanpur National Park.
However, extraction of groundwater is permitted, but only for drinking and agricultural purposes.
Water and noise pollution and felling of trees will be monitored in the area. Tourism related activities, conditional repair and construction activities will be allowed. The activities that will be promoted in eco-sensitive zones include agriculture and horticulture, rejuvenation of natural water resources, organic farming, vegetable fencing and agro-forestry.
