Left leaders of India attended the centenary celebrations of the Communist Party of China

New Delhi: An online seminar was organized by the Chinese Embassy in India on Tuesday, 27 July in which Left representatives participated. The symposium was organized as part of the centenary celebrations of the Communist Party, with the theme of party building, promoting exchanges and sharing experiences on cooperation.

But on the pretext of the meeting, China not only raised the issue of tension on the border but also tried to justify its antics in incidents like Galwan in eastern Ladakh last year. The event was addressed by Sun Weidong, Ambassador of China to India. CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, CPI General Secretary D Raja, Lok Sabha MP S Senthil Kumar, All India Forward Block Secretary G Devarajan were present as Left representatives.

Du Xiaolin also participated in the online event.

Du Xiaolin, Bureau Counselor of the Department of International Cooperation of the Communist Party of China, also participated in the online seminar. During the address, the Chinese ambassador described the rise of the Communist Party of China and the organizational formation and development of China under the leadership of President Xi Jinping.

Ambassador Sun described India-China relations as a relationship of great potential and talked about resolving disputes through peaceful dialogue. He said that we take border differences seriously. But merely highlighting the differences will not lead to a solution. Rather, it will only undermine mutual trust, making the road to a solution more difficult.

During the speech, the Chinese ambassador also referred to the Galwan Valley incident and said that the right and wrong are clear in the incident on the border last year. China has clarified its position many times. The two sides are in touch at the military and diplomatic level.

We have to take into account the response from China – Chinese Embassy

However, in the statement issued by the Chinese embassy, the reaction of the leaders of the Left to China’s allegations on the border dispute is not clear. When asked about this, a senior Left leader said that we have to take into account the reaction of China, after that we will be able to comment on the issue.

The Government of India has emphasized through official statements that the clash between the soldiers of the two countries in the Galwan Valley on 15 June 2020 was a deliberate action of the Chinese Army. In this incident, 20 soldiers of the Indian Army including a colonel were martyred.

No official statement issued by CPI(M)

Significantly, the Indian government has not officially sent any congratulatory message on the centenary celebrations of the Communist Party of China amid the ongoing 14-month-old India-China border tension in the eastern Ladakh region. Meanwhile, the Chinese government certainly thanked the Left for the congratulatory message on the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of China.

Significantly, the embassy shared information about this program organized by the Chinese government. But no official statement was issued by the country’s largest leftist party CPIM.
