Dinesh Karthik Says India Should Opt To Play Only One Spinner, Suggesting Ravichandran Ashwin Can’t Be Worse In The Playing XI

Indian cricket fans were a bit worried after Dinesh Karthik posted images of the pitch to be used for the World Test Championship (WTC) final between India and Australia at The Oval.

Fans and experts were embroiled in a debate over who should play India’s playing XI – Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja or both. Some argued for going with an extra fast bowler given the green color of the playing surface.

Ahead of WTC final 2023, Dinesh Karthik said that India should opt to play only one spinner.

“Leave Ashwin and play four fast bowlers. I enjoyed Ashwin’s bowling at Southampton, but – is the coach going to do the same thing again? I doubt it. Umesh Yadav has bowled well in the nets. He is looking sharp, and feeling good body-wise. I have a strong feeling that he will go with Umesh,” Dinesh Kathick said on Cricbuzz.

Ashwin is the number one bowler in Test cricket and second only to Jadeja in the list of all-rounders.

As far as India’s batting is concerned, the good thing is that Cheteshwar Pujara has had a great time in England during his county stint this season. Not only batting but his advice on pitch and weather will also be crucial for the team.

Virat Kohli had a stellar IPL 2023 season with the bat as Ajinkya Rahane also made a comeback to India after a stellar IPL 2023 season.

“He [Virat Kohli] Well batted from the start. In the first match, he scored 70 runs against Mumbai Indians. He was looking top notch, and right at the tail end of the IPL. He showed his class. The two hundreds that he got are unmatched. He is batting brilliantly and I am sure he will score well,” said Karthik.

“For me it is important for India to do well in the WTC final and if they want to cross the line, it will be Cheteshwar Pujara,” Karthik said.
