Kolkata: Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman was retained as Bengal’s batting consultant, while Laxmi Ratan Shukla He was appointed as the Under-23 coach, marking his return to cricket after six years of joining politics.

Shukla became an MLA from Howrah (North) and later served as Sports Minister under Arup Biswas.
Shukla was later made the TMC’s Howrah district president, but resigned from the post just before the last assembly elections and quit politics to “focus more on cricket”.
The 40-year-old said of his return to cricket, “Let’s work together. Looking forward.”
