“Many laws were passed in this House in a hurry and later the courts commented on them which is not good for the House and it is expected that all the Bills will be passed with proper discussion,” Kharge said.

Speaking on Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s first day as Rajya Sabha chairman, Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said he hoped no legislation would be passed in a hurry, and promised that the opposition would cooperate in running the House.

“Many laws were passed in this House in a hurry and later the courts commented on them which is not good for the House and it is expected that all the Bills will be passed with proper discussion,” Kharge said.

Referring to first Prime Minister late Jawaharlal Nehru, Kharge said, “Nehru had said that RS was equally important except for money bills. Parliament is the house of democratic deliberations. We, like-minded parties, our Will strongly take up all issues related to people.PM @narendramodi ji, you talked about giving more opportunities to the opposition to participate, so we expect the government to follow through.

“If laws are made in haste, they attract judicial scrutiny. Therefore, we expect that all important Bills should be referred to Joint/Select Committees, so that they can be carefully examined.

We stand ready to extend full cooperation to parliamentary procedures and debates.”

Trinamool Congress leader Sukhendu Shekhar Ray also welcomed the new president and hoped that voices of protest would be given importance.

Deputy Chairman Harivansh also welcomed the new Chairman. DMK’s T Siva said that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has also congratulated him. “We expect fairness,” Shiva said.
