Lata Mangeshkar’s Demise: Mumtaz breaks down, “I spoke to Asha Bhosle only last night” – Exclusive! – Times of India

This morning at 5 am in London, a scribe from Mumbai called mumtaz on her mobile. Mumtaz was up and about. “I am an early riser anyway but I really got scared when I heard my phone ringing at 5 am (GMT),” she started off, choked with emotion, when ETimes contacted her a few minutes ago.

Lata Mangeshkar’s demise has left her heartbroken. Mumtaz revealed that she had spoken to Asha Bhosle from London only last night. She told me, “Didi is stable. Lataji had become a bit stable yesterday. Post that, I thought I would be at peace. Little did I know that the sad news was only a few hours away. Actually, I had left several text messages on Ashaji’s phone but she hadn’t answered them. All that had made me more anxious.”

“COVID with pneumonia was a terrible combination. But if Lataji had been younger, she would have definitely come out of this fine.” Mumtaz added.

Which is Lataji’s favorite song that was picturised on her? Mumtaz replied, “My favorite song would be ‘Bindiya Chamkegi’ from ‘Do Raaste’. In fact, Lata was once asked to list her favorite 50 songs and I felt so lucky when she included ‘Bindiya Chamkegi’ in that list.”

“There will never be another Lata Mangeshkar, Never. Ever since the 5 am call, I am seeing everything on TV. It’s been two hours now, it’s nearly 7 am as we are talking. I am sorry but I cannot control my emotions,” Mumtaz signed off, tearfully.
