Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who was hospitalized after contracting coronavirus, is doing better now but is still under ICU monitoring. His spokesperson shared an update about the singer’s health. In a statement, Anusha Srinivasan Iyer said, “Lata didi remains in the ICU under the supervision and treatment of Dr Pratitha Samdani and her wonderful team of doctors.” He also urged his fans to pray for his speedy recovery. “Let us all pray for his speedy recovery and return home,” India Today quoted him as saying.

“Lata ji is still in the ICU, we are trying our best to ensure that she recovers at the earliest. Pray for her recovery,” India Today quoted Dr Pratat as saying on Thursday.

The 92-year-old singer tested positive for coronavirus with mild symptoms and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai on January 8.

On Wednesday, Anusha Srinivasan confirmed that the singer is stable. “Lata Di is stable. Will come home after doctors’ approval,” Iyer told news agency PTI. Mangeshkar’s condition was said to have deteriorated two days ago and the spokesperson then termed the news as false.

Considered one of the greatest singers of Indian cinema, Mangeshkar received Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, in 2001.

She is also the recipient of several other awards including Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Awards and several National Film Awards.
