It is advised for taxpayers to check their income tax portal and ensure that Aadhaar and PAN are linked. NRIs may have some concerns as they do not have Aadhaar in some cases,” said Amit Maheshwari, AKM Global Tax Partner.
While PAN is used for various transactions like opening a bank account, purchase of immovable property or proof of identity, inactive PAN will trigger the domino effect and people who have not linked their Aadhaar will face many challenges. may fall. For example, they will not be able to perform these functions without a valid PAN, as having an inactive PAN is equivalent to not having one.
Nangia Andersen LLP Partner Neeraj Aggarwal said, “Once your PAN is deactivated, the person will be barred from doing financial transactions (where mention of PAN is mandatory like in mutual funds), at higher rates of TDS and Section Penalty under 272B will be imposed.”
