Largest state in law and order and entrepreneurship: Uttar Pradesh

The government’s zero tolerance towards crime has not only reduced cases but also helped in creating a pro-investment environment.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced in 2017 that criminals will have to give up crime or leave the state. Soon after, the police prepared a list of notorious criminals in each district and formed special teams to nab them. The results have been impressive. In the last four and a half years, 137 criminals have been killed in police encounters. 37,000 arrests have been made under the UP Gangster Act and 523 under the National Security Act. UP’s Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Avnish Kumar Awasthi says, “Zero tolerance to crime has led to the arrest of 11,000 priceless criminals.”

According to the State Crime Records Bureau, between 2016 and 2020, there has been a 25.7 percent decline in murder cases, 67 percent in dacoity and 41 percent in kidnapping for ransom. There has been a 32 per cent drop in rape cases.

Law and order reforms have promoted entrepreneurship and investment. Additional Chief Secretary (MSME) Navneet says, “Seven companies from Japan, five from the US, four each from Germany and South Korea, three from the UK, two each from Canada and Singapore and one from Hong Kong are investing. ” Sehgal. UP ranked second in the 2019 ranking of states based on implementation of the Business Reform Action Plan (released by DPIIT) – a jump of 12 positions in three years.
