Lalan Singh may be the next president of JDU

Senior Janata Dal-United MP Rajeev Singh ‘Lalan’ Singh is expected to be made the new national president of the party, a source said. The National Executive Committee of the JD(U) will meet at the party’s Jantar Mantar office in New Delhi on Saturday and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who arrived in the capital on Thursday to attend it, is expected to take a decision during the meeting.

Lalan Singh has been close to Nitish Kumar for many years and played an important role in the formation of the party.

Credited for bringing LJP’s lone Bihar MLA Raj Kumar Singh, apart from Independent Sumit Kumar Singh, into the JD(U), he is also reportedly responsible for the split in the LJP, which has dealt a blow to Chirag Paswan.

Recently, during the cabinet expansion of the Narendra Modi government, the party had authorized the current national president RCP Singh to take decisions on its behalf. Singh, however, only ensured his inclusion and sources said this was against the wishes of Nitish Kumar, who wanted two cabinet berths for him, and Lalan Singh.

Nitish Kumar now wants to give a consolation prize to Lalan Singh by making him the national president.

Nitish Kumar was the national president before the 2020 assembly elections, but after taking oath as the chief minister, he resigned from the post and handed over the command to RCP Singh.

Now after Singh becomes the Union Minister, he will hand over the potential post to Lalan Singh under the party’s one man one post policy.
