Lakhimpur violence: SKM suspends Yogendra Yadav for meeting deceased BJP worker

The United Kisan Morcha (SKM) on Thursday suspended activist Yogendra Yadav for 1 month for visiting the residence of the deceased BJP worker who lost his life during the Lakhimpur violence. The decision was taken in the SKM meeting held today, in which Yadav was also present.

Yogendra Yadav had earlier visited the residence of BJP worker Shubham Mishra, who was killed in the Lakhimpur violence and offered condolences to the family members. Since his visit, farmers’ unions of Punjab have been demanding action against him.

Meenhil, a local court on Thursday granted police three-day custody of four accused in the Lakhimpur violence in which eight people, including four farmers, were killed. The court sent Sumit Jaiswal, Satya Prakash Tripathi alias Satyam, Nandan Singh Bisht and Shishu Pal to police remand. The accused were arrested in connection with the violence in Tikonia area and were produced before the remand magistrate on October 19, from where they were sent to judicial custody for 14 days.

The SKM has also demanded that an inquiry into the incident of lynching at the Singhu border be conducted by Supreme Court judge and Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Kailash Choudhary to resign to meet a leader of Nihang Sikhs. In a statement, the Morcha said, “SKM demands that Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Kailash Choudhary immediately resign after meeting a leader of Nihang Sikhs, whose groups were involved in the heinous murder. Demands inquiry from the judge.”
