Ladakh standoff: Ready to find mutually acceptable solution, China tells India

Beijing: New Delhi told Beijing in categorical terms that the Ladakh standoff was affecting bilateral ties “in a negative way”, with China saying on Thursday that it is ready to find “mutually acceptable solutions” to issues that need to be addressed. What is needed is “immediate treatment” through dialogue and counseling.

This came after a personal meeting between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on the sidelines of an SCO summit in Dushanbe on Wednesday.

During the hour-long meeting, Jaishankar also told his Chinese counterpart that any unilateral change in status quo along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) was “not acceptable” to New Delhi.

He said that overall relations between the two sides can develop only after complete restoration of peace and tranquility in eastern Ladakh.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its website on Thursday on Wang’s talks with Jaishankar, the minister said that India-China relations remained at a “low point”, while the situation at the border after the return was “generally easy”. Wang said relations between China and China are still at a “low point” which is not in “anyone’s interest”.

“China stands ready to seek mutually acceptable solutions to issues that require immediate remediation through dialogue and consultation with the Indian side,” he said.
