Rajkot: Arid Raw The district will soon get irrigation water. The Gujarat government on Tuesday approved work orders worth Rs 4369 crore in Phase 1 to prepare the infrastructure for making it available. Narmada Water in many taluks of Kutch
The state government said in a statement that a 337-km long pipeline would be laid for this project. 38 irrigation schemes of Kutch will get water from this pipeline.
According to the government, after the completion of this work 77 villages in six taluks, including Mundra, Rapar, Anjar, Mandvi, Bhuj And Nakhtarana will get water for irrigation. 81,000 acres of agricultural area will be covered under irrigation.
Farmers, under the banner of the Bharatiya Kisan Sangh, recently protested against the demand to provide Narmada water for irrigation in all taluks of Kutch.
The farmers of Kutch are dependent on monsoon for cultivation and they are able to get only one crop in a year.
With the availability of irrigation water, farmers will be able to take two to three crops in a year.
