Mangaluru: At first, Cock’s Wealth Subrahmanya Temple, which is attended by a large number of people, will observe Swachhata Day on everyone Ekadashis.
Under the Swachh Mandir Seva Abhiyan, the temple management in collaboration with the devotees, temple committee, employees and NSS/Scout units of nearby institutions will conduct cleanliness (cleanliness) campaign on all Ekadashis in the afternoon. More than one thousand volunteers will clean the temple and the premises temple city Ekadashi in future.
Temple Management Committee chairman Mohanram Sulli told TOI that the aim of the campaign was to create awareness about cleanliness among the devotees. “We have started this scheme by involving temple employees, students of educational institutions and other organizations. Devotees will also be given an opportunity to participate in this cleanliness drive in the form of seva (community service) during Ekadashi. We have already released the calendar of cleanliness programs to be held on Ekadashi till March next year. There are at least two Ekadashis in a month. On those days, the drive would be conducted between 2 pm and 3.30 pm,” he explained.
He said that at present, devotees offer ‘Urulu Sev’ at the temple as part of their vow. “In future, this Swachhata Sev may also be a part of their Sev. Apart from keeping the temple premises clean, it will also provide an opportunity to the devotees to do voluntary service. The response to the first cleanliness drive held recently was good. Fisheries Minister S Angara and Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar were part of the first campaign,” he said.
Situated at the foothills of the Western Ghats, the temple had recently launched the ‘Haseeru Kukke’ campaign by planting 2,000 saplings at 14 places in Kukke village.
